In this video, the clinical features of Alzheimer’s disease are defined, along with the disease burden. The global disease prevalence and the predicted increase is illustrated.
Potential modifiable risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease are described. The challenge of pre-symptomatic diagnosis is specified and the role of the ATN framework of biomarkers to aid differentiation of Alzheimer’s from other causes of cognitive impairment is discussed.
Finally, limitations of the ATN framework and barriers leading to low rates of disease diagnosis are summarised.
